Results of the 2008 WSOP $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Holdem Event

Held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Holdem was the very first event for the 39th Annual World Series of Poker in 2008. The three-day event started on May 30 and ended on June 1, 2008, which followed a no re-buy and no add-on tournament format. With 352 very exciting players who attended, the total prize pool ballooned to a huge $3,308,800, which made the poker tournament a very nice event to start the 2008 WSOP.

Among the 352 very talented poker players who participated at the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Holdem event, only nine of them advanced to the prestigious final table of this very exciting 39th Annual World Series of Poker event. The first half of the pack includes Phil Laak, Patrik Antonius, Amit Makhija, Kathy Liebert, and Nenad Medic. On the other hand, Mike Sowers, Chris Bell, Mike Sexton, and Andy Bloch completed the final table roster for this particular event.

After a very exciting start, the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Holdem event promised to be another classic for the World Series of Poker. After rounds of non-stop poker action, Laak was eliminated at the early rounds of this premier poker competition. With that performance, he was able to take home $74,448. After a few more rounds, Sowers was also eliminated, taking home with him a prize valued at $99,264. Soon after, Antonius found himself with the very same fate as his previously eliminated opponents, taking home with him $124,080.

At the middle parts of the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Holdem event of the 39th Annual World Series of Poker, Bell was also ousted from the poker tournament after committing some irreversible and untimely mistakes. After a sixth overall performance, the event organizers awarded him with a hefty $157,168 prize. For the fifth place, Makhija was then booted out from the poker tournament after making his own share of mistakes. With this solid performance, he was awarded with a huge sum of $198,528. Sexton was the last victim of the middle rounds, who placed fourth overall and took home a huge sum of cash valued at $248,160.

In the closing rounds of the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Holdem poker tournament, Bloch, Medic, and Liebert showed everything they have to outwit and overplay one another. After a few more rounds, Liebert soon found herself eliminated after her two remaining opponents displayed extremely tough decision-making skills. The face-off between Bloch and Medic at the final rounds of the competition was indeed a classic battle between two of the most seasoned veterans of the game. In the end, Medic got the grand prize after defeating Bloch with a starting hand comprised of a seven of hearts and five of hearts. The win gave Medic $794,112, while Bloch received $488,048 as a runner-up.
