A Poker Newbie's to the Proper Poker Playing Style

Besides Poker strategies and position, another aspect of the game that new players must learn is that of playing style. This is not merely a matter of aesthetics; the way and manner you play the game can spell the difference between winning and losing.

There are numerous Poker playing styles of course, and there is really not one correct way to play the game, as it is very situational. For the beginner, however, it is important that you start by playing it tight. What this means is that by playing in a more restricted manner, you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

The one playing style you should avoid is playing it too loose. This is something that you will see in a lot of inexperienced Poker players. Always play it tight, and you can do this with the understanding of the hands that should be played. Playing this way, you will eventually commence to becoming a tight aggressive player, meaning you will be playing the hands that you selected more aggressively.

However, it is also important that you take the time to study the other Poker playing styles- loose, passive, maniacal, weak tight, etc- not necessarily because you will play that way, but because a lot of your opponents will. When you sit at a table, you will find yourself going up against these styles, and it is vital that you know the nuances of each, so you can exploit them.

As you get more experience playing the game, you will eventually learn to shift your playing style. Although tight aggressive is often the best way to play, there will be times when you will want to shift gears, and be more aggressive or loose than usual.

This is something that you will have to do when you face the tougher opponents in the higher stakes games. At the highest level, players will have great reading skills, so you will want to avoid being pigeonholed into any category. The ultimate goal then, is that not only do you recognize and can play different styles, but also learn to develop your own methods.

Poker playing styles is something that will take a while to develop, but you should persevere, and with determination you will be able to hone it. Once you have learned to play the different styles and read them as well, you are well on your way to becoming a pro Poker player.
